The Calpe Dental team

Dr Joel Weinberg
Dr Weinberg trained in Johannesburg, at Wits (the University of the Witwatersrand), graduating in 1980.

He then spent two years in the South African army, working as a dentist in the Maxillo-Facial Surgery department, after which he had his own clinic in Johannesburg, specialising in pediatric dentistry.

In 1990 he moved to London, soon with his own clinic in Covent Garden, where he specialised in implantology and cosmetic dentistry. He is a member of both the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry and the American Association of Aesthetic Dentistry.

In 2005 he came to Spain, where he set up Calpe Dental within the Clínica Britannia in Calpe. (We are now in our own accommodation.)

Joel plays the saxophone, the guitar and the harmonica, playing in bands both in London and on the Costa Blanca. He has also been a professional athlete, and is proud to have competed in four ‘IronMan’ triathlons.

Lisa Lurpold, hygienist
Lisa was born in the heart of New York, in Manhattan. She graduated from the Fanes School of Dental Hygiene in Connecticut.

For ten years she worked her way across the USA, then around Paris, after which, in 1982, she came to Madrid, where she opened the first school of dental hygiene, and worked in general practices. In 2007 she came south to Dénia, where she now lives.

She has two grown children and what she describes as “two ungrown dogs.” Among her hobbies are tennis, swimming, boating and hiking.

Jayne Haworth, dental nurse
Jayne is from Lancashire. She qualified as a nurse in 1987 and went on to work as a practice nurse. After successfully completing a nurse practitioner degree, she become a specialist in respiratory problems.

She has also worked for an international pharmaceuticals company.

Always on the go, she enjoys time with her family and dog. She also takes pleasure in watching and participating in sport. She is a Manchester United supporter, plays netball for the Javea netball team and loves to go skiing in the winter—and still finds time to relax with a good book.

Maria Zuluaga, dental nurse
Maria is from Colombia.

She worked with Dr Weinberg in London, at his Covent Garden clinic.

It was also in London that she trained, gaining a professional qualification as a dental nurse.

Maria loves animals. She looks after 2 dogs, 4 cats and 4 parrots. She loves walking in the mountains in Spain with her dogs.

Andrea Wilmot, receptionist
Originally from the North-East of England, Andrea has moved to and from Spain and the UK a few times—starting back in the late 1980s when she ended up running an office for a tour operator in Benidorm. Among the jobs she had in the UK was that of a Senior Fraud Analyst for a major telecommunications company.

This time, Andrea moved with her whole family—husband, kids and dogs—back to Calpe, where in her spare time her main interest is in finishing the renovation of her house (ETA 2020!)
